First Aid at Work Courses
RGU SPORT runs a number of First Aid courses:
- Initial First Aid at Work (FAW) Certified Course
- Emergency First Aid at Work Certified Course (EFAW)
- First aid at work requalification certified course (FAWR)
- Annual first aid refresher course (AFAR)
Initial First Aid at Work (FAW) Certified Course
This course meets the full requirements set by the HSE in accordance with the 'Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981' and the approved code of practice and Guidance L74.
It is aimed at those staff that are required to act as a fully qualified first aider in the workplace.
The duration of the course is a minimum of 18 contact hours usually held over 3 days, including an independent assessment. Renewable every 3 years.
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Certified Course
This course meets the requirements set by the HSE in accordance with the 'Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981' and is the approved code of practice and guidance L74.
This is a first level course in workplace first aid aimed at giving people the basic knowledge and skills to manage the situation until a fully qualified first aider or other appropriate person arrives to take over the situation. It may be an appropriate level course for the 'Appointed Person'.
The duration of the course is a minimum of 6 hours with a continuous assessment process. Renewable every 3 years.
First Aid at Work Requalification (FAWR) Certified Course
This course meets the full requirements set by the HSE in accordance with the 'Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981' and the approved code of practice and guidance L74 and HSG212.
It is required to be renewed every 3 years to enable the fully qualified first aider to remain competent and certified.
The duration is 12 hours contact time usually held over 2 days with an independent assessment.
Annual First Aid Refresher (AFAR) Course
The HSE strongly recommends that all employers should enable their workplace first aiders to attend an annual first aid refresher course at least once each year, prior to their requalification in year 3, to assist in the retention of their knowledge and skills and to keep them up to date and competent.
The duration is a minimum of 3 contact hours in years 1 & 2 of the first aider's current certification validity period.
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
RGU SPORT is an approved training centre in Aberdeen for National Pool Lifeguard courses and hosts a range of courses throughout the year.

Course Dates and Information
RGU Sport will be running a Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS UK), National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). Gaining your lifeguard qualification is a great starting point if you are looking to start your career in leisure. The course up skill candidates in pool lifeguard theory, practical pool rescues, first aid and CPR and will include PXB and AED.
The course will run from 9 July to 13 July 2018 from 0830-1730 each day, with the assessment on Saturday 14 July 2018. Each day must be attended in full by all candidates. Candidates must be a minimum of 16 years old on the day of assessment and must complete a swim test prior to the start of the course.
