The sky’s the limit for Blackburn graduate

Samantha ShiachSamantha Shiach (25), from Blackburn, is to graduate with a BA (Hons) in Management at 2.30pm on Thursday 9 December.

Samantha successfully combined her demanding job as a flight attendant for BMI with studying part-time for a BA (Hons) Management. She was inspired to obtain a degree by her father, who also studied Management. The course was particularly appealing to Samantha, as it covered a wide range of topics, providing her with a range of different future career options.

Whilst studying for her degree for the first two years, Samantha maintained a hectic full-time job as cabin crew with BMI. She explains, “Trying to fit my university work around the shifts and getting to classes was extremely difficult. I was lucky to have a few close friends, whom I could rely upon for notes when I missed classes. I also was lucky to have good friends at BMI, who were good at swapping shifts to help me get to classes.”

She added that the highlight of her time at the University was, “Finding two people, Tracy and Mel, whom I have become particularly close to and, who have been a huge strength and support to me throughout.”

As well as juggling a busy schedule, last December Samantha obtained a position with RBG as a Logistics Co-ordinator. Despite being under a great deal of pressure, she excelled at her new job and was soon promoted to Energy Resourcing as Recruitment Co-ordinator.

Samantha concludes, “I’m planning to continue working at RBG, and hopefully go on to do my CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel Development) postgraduate qualification next year.”
