RGU takes pioneering ‘one–stop-shop’ occupational health service to industry

North-east businesses are being invited to learn more about an innovative occupational health service for workplace absence management developed by Robert Gordon University (RGU).

RGU: Wellness TeaserRGU’s Faculty of Health and Social Care (FOHSC) is holding an open evening and drinks reception, in conjunction with Oil and Gas UK, on Wednesday, May 28 to showcase RGU:Wellness, a unique one-stop-shop occupational health service for companies to get employees back to work.

After consulting with external consultants, the FOHSC identified that there was a bottle neck for access to integrated health care services for organisations and developed a concept to solve the issue.

Liz Hancock, Head of the School of Health Sciences at RGU, said: “We identified that organisations want access to a range of health services under one roof for getting employees back to work, and we realised we could maximise on the expertise within RGU’s Schools of Health Sciences and Nursing and Midwifery which could impact on the speed of return to work for employees in any organisation based on current NHS constraints.”

Harnessing the clinical expertise from across the Faculty, RGU:Wellness offers a one stop shop providing timely access to a co-ordinated package of assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.

This ‘pathway to work’ offers direct and easy access to: physiotherapy; mental health solutions; fitness testing; podiatry; neuropsychological assessments; functional capacity evaluation; health improvement and promotion and  imaging all supported by an Occupational Health Physician.

“All treatments are evidence based and underpinned by expertise in health, occupational science and research, guaranteeing the efficacy and currency of all treatments offered,” continues Mrs Hancock.

The service is targeted at a range of clients from private individuals, private and public sector organisations, referrals from GPs, HR managers, operations managers and occupational health specialists.

“We are holding the open evening to introduce industry to the service, demonstrating how it can benefit a business while providing delegates with an opportunity to see our first class facilities on campus.”

The open evening is taking place at RGU’s Riverside building at its Garthdee campus from 6pm to 8pm where delegates will be given tours of facilities as well as an opportunity to meet the experts.
