Sarah Burgess (33), who lives in Brora, will celebrate the culmination of her hard work at 2.30pm on Thursday 3 December when she graduates with a BA (Hons) Management from Robert Gordon University.
When Sarah left school she decided she wanted to start her career straight away but always planned to challenge herself academically at some point.
Sarah works for consumer goods company Diageo who has a portfolio of world-famous drinks brands, whom she joined over a decade ago, and has worked through a number of roles. In 2006 she worked at their Auchroisk Distillery near Keith and lived in Dufftown when she decided to take the plunge and join the University's part-time management course.
She said, "Juggling work and studies was challenging but exciting. It was really great to have the opportunity to directly apply the principal's of my course into my job."
Then, in Sarah's third year of study, she gained a promotion to Senior Site Manager and transferred to Clynelish Distillery, in Brora. She continues, "That's when things really changed. It takes three and a half hours to get from Brora to Aberdeen. I'd work in Brora on a Monday morning, drive down to Aberdeen in the afternoon, go to my night class, then drive back to Brora that night - just to do it all again the following day!"
Sarah concludes, "Studying was a fantastic experience. I have a great sense of achievement and look forward to advancing my career with Diageo. They're a fantastic company to work for."
