Mature students interested in a career in nursing are invited to attend a special taster event at Robert Gordon University this summer.
The School of Nursing and Midwifery’s open day for mature applicants will be held on Thursday, August 22 in the Clinical Skill Centre at the University’s Garthdee campus.
The one-day event has been designed specifically for adults who are looking for a career change or are looking to return to work after an extended period of time.
Throughout the day, attendees will be able to participate in practical and theoretical exercises to simulate the reality of day-to-day nursing such as communication, hand washing, bed-making and feeding. They will then put these new skills to the test in a live setting by undertaking simulated nursing practice with volunteer patients.
Lecturer Margo Learmonth coordinates the taster days and RGU’s nursing summer school. She said: “We are really pleased to offer this opportunity for adult learners who are considering a career in nursing.
“The adult taster days have been developed following the positive feedback and requests we received about other popular programmes run for teenagers and young people. This will be a great opportunity for adults to learn some new skills, meet academic and clinical staff, and make an informed choice about applying for the 2014 term.”
