Lauren has designs for the future thanks to JAMstudio

Robert Gordon University student Lauren Jenkins is helping top architectural design specialist JAMstudio achieve double success.

Lauren Jenkins JAMStudioLauren, 22, is close to completing a successful year-long placement with award-winning design practice JAMstudio as part of her degree.

Additionally, Lauren, a fourth-year architecture student at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment, has nominated the company for an accolade as part of the north-east’s largest business awards event after working as an architectural assistant during her placement.

JAMstudio has now been shortlisted for the Student Placement Award at the 2012 Northern Star Business Awards. The award, sponsored by Robert Gordon University, recognises the contribution that businesses make to students through their participation in the university’s student placement programme.

Marie-Louise Dunk, director at JAMstudio, said: “Lauren has done an excellent job in her time here and has fitted in well with the rest of our team. She leaves us more confident and well-prepared to carve out an excellent career for herself once she’s completed her studies.

“We have been very impressed with the standard of Lauren’s work across a huge variety of projects. She has proven to be an excellent learner as well as extremely hard working.”

Since joining JAMstudio in August 2011, Lauren has contributed to a number of major commercial and residential projects, including the refurbishment of new offices for Dana Petroleum and a new-build home on the Ballogie estate in Aberdeenshire.

Lauren, from Turriff, said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn from my colleagues at JAMstudio and the level of responsibility I’ve been given in this role. I’ve been involved in a number of challenging projects which has been a great experience.”

Lauren, who will be returning to university in September, adds: “In the future, I plan to study for my Master’s degree and then I’d like to continue in a similar role working as part of the JAMstudio team on major commercial projects. I’m sure the skills I’ve developed while on placement will stand me in good stead for the future.”

Marie-Louise adds: “We’re extremely pleased to have been recognised for the quality of our student placement experience by Northern Star. Lauren has confirmed our belief in the importance of providing opportunities for talented young people keen to realise their potential in this industry.”

JAMstudio is one of three finalists which have been shortlisted for the Student Placement award. This year’s Northern Star Business Awards and Dinner will be held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) on Thursday, October 11.

A leading architectural design specialist, JAMstudio has won a number of local and national awards for its dynamic approach to architecture and interior design, including its work on the £1million refurbishment of The Dalmore Visitor Centre, the renowned highland distillery near Inverness. The business has also delivered projects in the energy and high-end residential sectors.

JAMstudio has been shortlisted in the Public Building category at the 2012 AJ Retrofit Awards, in recognition of its work in revitalising the visitor centre at The Dalmore distillery. The event, run by magazine The Architects’ Journal, takes place in London on Wednesday, September 12 (2012).

Notes to Editors:

JAMstudio was set up in 2003 by husband and wife John Wingate and Marie-Louise Dunk, who worked on a series of high-profile London projects before moving to the north-east of Scotland.

In the past nine years, the company has designed and delivered more than £70million worth of commercial and residential projects – including space planning for a global energy company, new office projects and high-quality steading conversions.

In 2009, its work to breathe new life into a Peterhead church saw JAMstudio recognised as the Socially Responsible Company of the Year at the Northern Star Business Awards, the flagship ceremony of the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce.

In December (2011), JAMstudio was named as one of the top three interior designers in Scotland following a special industry survey.
