A north-east health visitor has cause for a double celebration after graduating from university and having her first article published in a leading health journal.
Nichola Forsyth (35) graduated from Robert Gordon University (RGU) with a BN (Hons) in Community Health at a ceremony at Aberdeen Music Hall on Tuesday, December 9.
The former Portlethen Academy pupil now works as a trainee health visitor at Links Medical Practice in Aberdeen.
Nichola registered for the course as she wanted to become a health visitor since having three children of her own with her husband.
She said: “I feel so proud to have achieved my degree from RGU as I have worked on this whilst raising a young family and working.
“It has taken a lot of discipline to manage my workload and not detract from time with my family, and I have been so lucky to have an incredibly supportive husband.”
As well as graduating, Nichola has also had her first article published in the Journal of Health Visiting which discussed best practice in infant skin care.
She said: “I have really enjoyed the course and have had great placements and a fantastic mentor. My highlight is getting an article published which is a great achievement and now that I have graduated I’m looking forward to developing my health visiting career.
“I love this job and would encourage others to pursue health visiting as a career. There is so much opportunity to make an impact on the future health of the country and after gaining more experience I hope to study for my Masters to further develop my role even further.”
