Cultural diversity celebrated at International Week

To celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the City’s student population, Aberdeen Business School (ABS) at Robert Gordon University (RGU) welcomed delegates from nine international partner institutions as part of a week long series of events for ABS staff and students to increase awareness of the different cultures within the university.

International Week 2012, which took place from the 29 October to 2 November, consisted of several academic, social and cultural events for domestic and international students, ABS staff and international delegates with the aim of providing a platform for dialogue and to stimulate collaboration between different cultures within the Higher Education community. Everyone at ABS was invited to get involved as well as the international delegates from universities including Saxion in the Netherlands, Kaajani University in Finland and Mainz University in Germany, who visited and participated in many of the events including a Scottish Ceilidh, presentations on studying abroad opportunities and an International Celebration of Cultures day.

Erika Einikyte from the University’s Study Abroad Office, said: “International Week is a great opportunity for everyone to get to know the world around us. RGU staff can learn about cultural differences among their colleagues and students as well as establishing new links or research projects overseas and students have the opportunity to add an international flavour to their learning experience through guest lectures on a range of subjects. Some additional events were organized including a distillery tour and welcome from the Lord Provost of Aberdeen specifically for our guest delegates to welcome them to the city.

“The week was a great success and we hope that everyone involved were able to gain something from the experience. We must also thank the event sponsors, Aramark”
