More than 400 international delegates are expected to attend the event in the city’s Holy Spirit Hospital which will highlight the importance of Critical Care Nursing (CCN) and the need to reach new heights in professional standards and quality of care.
The trip, which has been part-funded by Scottish Development International (SDI), will see the two Scottish health care experts establish links with health professionals in India and discuss the UK’s Critical Care Nursing system.
Dr Martindale will chair a discussion panel at the conference which will cover a range of issues related to Critical Care Nursing, including: clinical experience, advancing practice and the challenges faced by critical care professionals.
She said: “India is currently strengthening its critical care workforce and the country’s health community is eager to learn from and adopt best practices from other countries. The UK has a highly developed network of Critical Care Nursing and we’re please to be able to share our experiences with our colleagues in India.”
Vanessa Smith will give two presentations at the conference which will outline work done to develop the field in the United Kingdom as well as the possibilities for the future of Critical Care Nursing. She will also focus on how to more effectively define Critical Care Nursing within the health sector through the development of professional competencies and national frameworks.
Mrs Smith said: “The conference is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of Critical Care Nursing to an international audience. We are both looking forward to learning more about health care systems around the world and as well as highlighting the areas where the UK’s system is leading the way.”
