Call to support final touches of Cameroonian Olympic camp

With 100 days to go until the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games (Wednesday 18 April), Aberdeen’s top sporting facilities are calling for the support of local businesses to add the final touches to the Cameroonian pre-games training camp.

Aberdeen Sports Village and RGU: SPORT, who successfully made a joint bid to host the African team for their 14 day training camp in July, are seeking financial and in-kind support to finalise the arrangements of the camp such as securing additional food supplies, toiletries and training clothing.

Up to 60 Cameroonian athletes and staff across a range of sports including boxing, rowing, swimming, weightlifting and judo will arrive in Aberdeen on 2 July for the PGTC. In addition to their intensive training schedule, the team will visit some of the region’s finest attractions as part of a social and cultural programme.

Speaking on behalf of the organising group, Sports Development Executive at Aberdeen Sports Village, Alison Frew said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming the Cameroon team for the PGTC which is all the more real now that we are at the 100 days point. The team’s presence in the city will provide a direct link to the energy and excitement of London 2012.”

Explaining the call for support from local businesses, Alison added:
“The requirements of these Olympic level athletes are very high, and our combined focus is on ensuring that their stay in Aberdeen in the crucial fortnight before London 2012 will be of the highest order. As such the additional support of the local business sector, both in-kind and financial, would be most welcome.”

Local businesses who are able to offer in-kind or financial support for the Cameroon Pre Games Training Camp are kindly requested to contact Alison Frew on or 01224 438907.
