Aberdeen College has been announced as a finalist in the UK-wide National Business Awards 2010, placing it alongside 150 of the UK's most innovative and resilient public and private sector businesses.
The College, which has been shortlisted in the ‘Excellence in Marketing' category of this year's awards, is the only college to achieve a finalist place in any of the 15 award categories. The College is also the only Scottish challenger in the Marketing Award shortlist, whose other finalists include companies such as American Express and the Camelot Group.
All finalists will present to a panel of judges in September and the winners will be announced at a prestigious award ceremony in November at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
Aberdeen College's entry was based on the marketing campaign, undertaken jointly with Robert Gordon University (RGU), to promote the innovative Uni-Link initiative, and ultimately raise the number of students progressing from the College to the University on degree link programmes.
Rob Wallen, Principal of Aberdeen College, commented: "Being shortlisted in this year's National Business Awards is a great achievement, putting Aberdeen College in the company of some of the UK's most successful and innovative businesses. To be in contention to win the ‘Excellence in Marketing' Award is a testament to the expertise, skill and creativity of the marketing departments of both the College and RGU."
Philip Forrest, Chairman of Judges for the National Business Awards, said: "The economic climate continues to present UK businesses with an unprecedented challenge and it is therefore encouraging that the entries in this year's National Business Awards have shown no drop in quality or performance. Congratulations to all finalists for demonstrating great strength in the ability to adapt and innovate quickly which no doubt reflects the resilience and optimism that are the hallmarks of UK enterprise."
