Fiona has been at RGU since 2000, although she has since May 2014, been a Senior Lecturer in eLearning and Innovation,Course Leader for Postgraduate Certificate Learning, Teaching and Assessment(Nursing and Midwifery), Teaching Fellow and Senior Fellow of the HEA.

From May 2014-2015, Fiona led an implementing project of GradeMark with integrated QuickMark settings across all the School of Nursing and Midwifery portfolios, led the validation of our PgCert Learning, Teaching and Assessment (Nursing and Midwifery) with bespoke in-house ePortfolio and worked with our eLearning team to profile academic staff and teaching portfolios for eLearning content.

Since September 2015, Fiona has been a project lead on the Electronic Clinical Assessment Tool (ECAT) project, which is a collaborative approach to enhancing student assessment of clinical competence in practice using assessment tools such as the Ongoing Achievement Record (Scotland). The project has been developed in conjunction with partners in practice. The ECAT tool adopts mobile learning technology to improve the timeliness, and accessibility of feedback. Students, academic supervisors, external markers, administrative staff, and mentors, all securely access the ECAT from any computer or tablet and allow academics to monitor the student experience remotely and provide feedback whilst students are on placement, sometimes in geographically remote locations. Additionally, the ECAT can ensure confidentiality and prevent fraudulent entries in clinical assessments.

Additionally, Fiona has specialised interest in systematic reviewing and since 2005 has been a research fellow at the Joanna Briggs Institute in Adelaide. Professionally, her background has a strong grounding in community health having worked as a community nurse, midwife and health visitor. As a previous grief counsellor for CRUSE Bereavement Scotland, Fiona has a particularly interest in the field of death, dying and bereavement and completed her PhD study exploring natural male grief in 2013. Since 2003, she has been a Union Steward with the RCN (Royal College of Nursing).
