Duties and Responsibilities

Caroline Whitehead is a part time Lecturer in Information Management, teaching on both the MSc Information and Library Studies and MSc Information Management courses.  Caroline’s interests are in both the management and development of information and library services, and the legal and ethical elements involved in providing these services.

Caroline returned to education slightly later than most, completing an Open University honours degree in Social Sciences while running a successful knitwear company. After completing the PG Dip Library and Information Studies course here at Robert Gordon University, she worked first in the RGU Health library, and then in the joint role of librarian/IT tutor at Aberdeen College.

In 1999 Caroline joined the School of Information and Media, here at the Robert Gordon University (now the Dept of Information Management) and became involved with delivering a range of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) training projects for professionals working in the library and information environment in a number of sectors such as education, health and business. Full time lecturing followed, reflecting Caroline’s interests in planning, managing and developing information and library services, especially in the changing information environments that these services inhabit and the associated challenges these changes bring.

Research Interests

Caroline’s research and professional interests include a range of aspects under the banner of information literacy, the impact of ICT on communication, and the challenging legal and ethical landscapes associated with information services and information provision.
