Daniel is an Academic Strategic Lead at Gray's, leading on commercial and external projects across the school.

He is also a Lecturer in the 3D Design & Craft Dept and works alongside Ben Durack, Matt Wilcock and Aubin Stewart.  The department houses a multi-disciplinary design and craft programme that brings together traditional materials and skills, with new technologies and practice.

Daniel is an experienced industrial designer with an interest in product lifecycle and circular economy.  He has run a design practice since 2009 specialising in the development of consumer products in various industries and sectors including health, energy, toys, homewares, electricals and lighting.  Daniel holds a number of granted patents and design registrations for product innovations.  

With a focus and background in industrialised injection moulding for plastics, Daniel has keen interests in new product development using recycled materials and co-founded a recycled plastics design company in 2019 called Origin Plastics Ltd.

Lord's Table Cricket Design Consultation Project

Project Scope: 

Re-design and development of a 'next generation' game kit for the existing Lord's Table Cricket Game.  The game is played by over 10,00 children in the UK every year and has been running for over 20 years.

Project Budget: £500K

Zero Waste Scotland Circularity Consultancy

Project Scope: 

Audit of plastics use within the Orkney islands to identify potential areas of innovation where localised plastic waste streams could be used to develop new product replacements for virgin plastic items.

Project Budget: £15K

Historic Environment Scotland Design Consultancy

Project Scope: To design a range of magnets to be sold in HES sales spaces across Scotland.  These magnets are made from 100% localised plastics and are designed, produced and supplied at origin Plastics HQ on campus in RGU.
