Dr. Colin Macduff is currently Head of Research and Scholarly Activity in the School of Nursing & Midwifery and also a senior member of the Institute for Health and Wellbeing Research (IHWR). Colin has very extensive experience as principal investigator on national evaluation research projects involving both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. He is a member of the University’s Research Committee and the Research Integrity and Ethics Sub-Committee. Colin is also extensively involved outwith the university, including roles as:

• Assessor, Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland
• External examiner for doctoral theses
• Visiting Professor, Khon Kaen University, Thailand 2011

• Founding member of the International Network for Electronic Theses and Dissertations in Nursing (INETDIN) 2015

Teaching Interests

• Co-ordinator of the Developing Research: Principles and Practice module that is undertaken by all RGU doctoral students.
• Supervision of Honours, master's and doctoral students within the School and University.

Recent Research Studies

• Vision On: the design and evaluation of a dynamic visualisation tool for use in staff training for the prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). AHRC funded project (£73,300). Co-investigator with: Glasgow School of Art and Design; NHS Grampian; NHS Lanarkshire
• Visualising the invisible: developing innovative approaches to visualisation to help NHS staff prevent and control healthcare associated infection. AHRC funded project (£101,311). Principal Investigator working with : IDEAS (Robert Gordon University); Glasgow School of Art and Design; Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (University of Dundee); NHS Grampian; NHS Lanarkshire; NHS Education for Scotland; Health Protection Scotland; Scottish Infection Research Network.
• The Socio-economic cost of bereavement care in Scotland: SECOB. Scottish Government funded (£27,864). Part of a national project led by NHS Tayside and involving: RGU; University of Dundee; University of York; University of Utrecht; CRUSE Bereavement Care Scotland. RGU.
• An International Survey of Nurse Scholars' Use of Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ISNS-ETDs). With Duquesne University, USA and Curtin University, Australia. Funded by Duquesne University ($10,000).
