Professional Background

In his early career, Kenneth MacDonald (known as Ken) spent three years as a Graduate Apprentice for Northern Tool and Gear Co. in Arbroath before becoming a Sales Engineer for special purpose machines at Giddings & Lewis Fraser Ltd. In 1964, he decided to continue his work for this company and embarked on a number of different roles including Project Engineer for Jute textile machinery development, Senior Project Engineer and Senior Design Engineer for Machine Tools.

Teaching Interests

In 1979 Ken became a Lecturer for the Robert Gordon Institute of Technology (later known as Robert Gordon University) and stayed there until 2002. During this time his particular interests were in Mechanical Engineering Design, Computer Aided Design, Mechanics of Solids, Offshore Drilling Technology and Fundamentals of Well Engineering.

Since 2002, he has continued to work closely with Robert Gordon University as a Consultant ad hoc Lecturer. This role has included providing online support for Campusmoodle, being a Senior Mentor for Monitored Professional Development Scheme, supervising projects as well as being involved with the writing and marking of exam papers.

He is the distance learning tutor for the Wells and Drilling Technology MSc modules.
