Neil has been a member of academic staff for a number of years and has held a variety of positions ranging from lecturer, stage leader, course leader, programme leader and senior lecturer. Neil has worked on a variety of local and national projects related to his roles. These roles have served to develop experience and expertise in areas such as higher education, wider access, fitness to practice, QA, curriculum design, student experience and engagement, practice learning and recruitment and selection. Neil has a breadth and depth of experience in higher education and is currently a member of the School senior team with responsibility for wider leadership and management of the School as well as university wide roles.
In his current role Neil provides direction, support and leadership to a range of academic staff within the School. Neil works closely with the Academic Strategic Lead for Programmes to ensure that all courses ensure that a positive student experience is achieved and the School maintains high levels of student engagement/working in partnership. As a strong advocate for inclusivity and wider participation, Neil has strategic responsibility for the recruitment and selection of students and in maintaining and developing wider access routes into the Schools portfolio of courses as well as enhancing support for transition.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and management of the School, strategic responsibility for student experience, recruitment and selection of students, progression and retention, wider access and the university clinical skills and simulated learning center. Leadership of a specific team of academic staff, resource and planning as well as working across the university in a range of roles. Support for teaching and learning, supervision of students undertaking dissertation/thesis and personal tutor support.
