Jenny joined RGU in May 2021 as a Public Affairs and Communications Officer with responsibility for communications for The Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment and Gray’s School of Art. As the University’s Public Affairs Officer, Jenny developed stakeholder relations with external groups and carried out a range of activities to influence public policy. With a change in personal circumstances, Jenny moved to a part-time role as a Communication Officer.
Jenny is a CIPR accredited communication’s specialist with over ten years’ experience. She graduated from The University of Edinburgh with an MA Hons (1st Class) in Politics. From Edinburgh, Jenny pursued a career in journalism, completing a NTCBJ accredited postgraduate course in Broadcast Journalism (Merit) at the University of Westminster in London.
Upon completing her postgraduate course, Jenny built up substantial journalism experience. After working as a Public Affairs Assistant for an Edinburgh based agency, Jenny joined BBC Scotland’s News and Current Affairs team in the Scottish Parliamentary Unit. During this time, Jenny reported, researched and produced for Holyrood Live (TV), Politics Scotland (TV), the Politics Show (TV) and Politics Tonight (radio). Whilst at BBC Scotland, Jenny completed editorial, storytelling and a video journalism course at the BBC’s nations and regions SONAR Centre. She also worked during the parliamentary recesses in newsrooms across Scotland covering shirts at BBC Aberdeen, BBC Shetland, Reporting Scotland and Newsnight Scotland. Other highlights at the BBC include, outside producing for BBC Scotland’s Edinburgh Festival coverage and for election night programmes. She also fulfilled a secondment to BBC’s investigative programme, Inside Out, in the West Midlands and reported for BBC Radio Stoke and BBC Shropshire.
From BBC Scotland, Jenny moved into public relations, working as a Press and Communication’s Officer in a busy corporate communication’s team at Telford & Wrekin Council. During this time, Jenny developed her training, successfully completing an Advanced Certificate from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. After relocating back to Scotland and a subsequent career break, Jenny developed her digital skills on a social media course and offered freelance communication’s advice to a range of groups including the Aberdeen Orthopaedic Network.
