Duties and Responsibilities

Val is a Lecturer in the Law School and has been a solicitor for 25 years working in both civil and criminal litigation. Before taking up post as a full time lecturer in 2012 Val tutored in the Litigation Module in the Diploma in Professional  Legal Practice ( DPLP).

She is the Module Leader for both  the full time Law of Evidence Module in LLB and in the Distance LLB Evidence Module and course leader for the online LLB.

She is the Law School Mooting contact and organiser. Val is the Deputy Course Leader for DPLP  and continues to teach in the Litigation Module.

Her particular interests include the teaching of advocacy and Law student employability.

Research Interests

Val’s research interests lie in criminal procedure and criminology.

PhD Supervision

She is interested in supervising on all areas within her research interests, but particularly interested in applications in the following topic areas: 

  • Admissibility of evidence: rules and procedure
  • The use of dockets in criminal charges
  • The Moorov Doctrine 
  • Identification Evidence 
  • Offender profiling and the involvement of women in crime 
  • Issues in professional regulation
