MBA Programme Highlights
In addition to the course content outlined on the course pages, we have designed all our MBA programmes to include the key elements below. Our tried and tested delivery methods will allow you to culminate and put your knowledge and skills into practice providing a practical and diverse approach.
MBA Leadership Week
The Business Simulation Exercise leads to Leadership Week, an intensive ten-day event for all MBA students with guest speakers from academia and industry. This includes an outdoor leadership development day and a career leadership event where you will be able to meet and network with fellow MBA students and executives from local businesses.
Interactive Business Simulation Exercise
All students come together over two weekends to participate in the Business Simulation Exercise. You will be placed in teams of three or four to compete against other teams to manage a fast-moving global technology company. The simulation exercise encourages all MBA students to bring together all their course learning and prior experience to demonstrate and apply their strategic management and functional management skills in a safe but competitive environment. This is an intense but enjoyable experience challenging your technical and interpersonal skills.
This seven-week project gives you the opportunity to apply the knowledge, skills and understanding gained from the taught elements of the course within a business context. The MBA project emphasises the analysis resolution of strategic issues within a practical and often global business environment.
All projects are strategic in nature and focus on real problems or opportunities facing an organisation or government.
You will work as a group, consulting with a local business on an agreed issue relating to its operations. This element of the course is designed to enable you to apply knowledge within a practical context, face challenges of working within new settings, apply learning to new problems and earn valuable experience of working in a multi-national environment.
Examples of previous projects include: preparing investment ready business plans; completing market research studies; assessing strategic options for expanding SMEs; development of HR policies; evaluating and recommending business process improvements; application of knowledge management; and new product development.
We work with you to ensure your project is strategic in nature and sponsored directly by the managing director or chief executive officer of your host organisation. For many students project ‘buy-in’ opens a valuable channel of communication with the highest levels within their own organisation and improves their visibility and profile, providing significant benefits to both themselves and their employer.

Building your Network
Throughout your studies you will build a professional network of contacts – from fellow classmates, to MBA faculty and industry contributors. This is an important aspect of the Aberdeen MBA experience and is made possible through the buoyant, global energy industry on the University’s doorstep.
As the course is AMBA accredited, you will be studying alongside fellow business men and women, with no less than three years’ management experience (and often much more). You will learn from each other through discussions, team work and shared experience. You will gain industry exposure through events held at the University (such as Leadership Week), external events (such as All Energy and Offshore Europe) and we also help you to build a wider network through workshop training in electronic networking through social media such as Linkedin.
