Secondary School Teacher

As a secondary school teacher you will be responsible for teaching one or more curriculum subjects to school pupils aged between 11 and 18. Using your creativity and imagination, you will plan and carry out lessons, encouraging enthusiasm for learning in your pupils. Your tasks will include planning and delivering lessons, marking work and providing feedback, managing pupil behaviour and performing a pastoral role, providing support to students going through academic or other difficulties.

Typical starting salary: £20,937 - £33,399.

Higher Education Lecturer

As a higher education (HE) lecturer you will teach academic or vocational subjects to undergraduate or postgraduate students, as well as carry out research activities. You will pursue your own areas or research, while at the same time contributing to the overall research output of your department. Tasks will vary, but they may include designing, preparing and developing teaching materials, assessing coursework, supervising students' research activities and representing the institution at professional conferences and seminars.

Typical starting salary: £27,500 - £41,000.

Further Education Lecturer

Further Education (FE) lecturers teach in adult and community education centres, FE colleges, sixth form colleges or tertiary colleges. You might teach a single subject or a number of different subjects, from basic levels up to HNC/HND, degree level or professional diplomas. On a day-to-day basis your tasks will include planning and delivering lessons, researching and developing new topics, courses and teaching materials, and acting as a personal tutor for students.

Typical starting salary : £20,000 - £35,000.
