Information governance at Robert Gordon University is composed of three components; Freedom of Information, Environmental Information and Data Protection.

Information GovernanceInformation Governance in the university is the responsibility of the Planning and Policy Department which that the university complies fully with its obligations under under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004, INSPIRE (Scotland) Regulations 2009 (PDF 145KB) and the General Data Protection Regulation.

Information Governance is a holistic approach of managing information through a rigorous framework of policies, procedures and controls. It involves dealing with all aspects of information management, right from its creation to maintenance, storage, use, retention and destruction.

  • Freedom of Information

    The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 requires public authorities to adopt a publication scheme which is a means of making information available pro-actively.

  • Environmental Information

    Under Section 62 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act, Scottish public authorities have a commitment of disclosure with regards to environmental information under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004.

  • Data Protection

    The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new legal framework for data protection and will apply to all member states from 25 May 2018.
