Hamish Wilson is a former NHS Executive Director and was Head of Primary Care in the Health Department of the Scottish Executive. He is currently a Non-executive Board Member of a number of health related organisations.

Hamish WilsonHamish was educated at Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen University and Emmanuel College, Cambridge with degrees, including a PhD, in Classics. He joined the NHS in the early 1970s and worked in a variety of posts, mostly in the North East of Scotland, culminating in an Executive Directorship of Grampian Health Board. He moved at the time of Devolution to work in the former Scottish Executive’s Health Department as Head of Primary Care. He retired in 2006 and was appointed CBE that year. 

Since retiral, Hamish has been appointed to a number of non-executive Board memberships, including the former Care Commission, General Medical Council, Healthcare Improvement Scotland, Scottish Dental Practice Board, Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and the Scottish Advisory Board of Marie Curie. He has also undertaken work on behalf of Scottish Government, including Chair of the Steering Group for the 60th Anniversary of the NHS in Scotland, leading the Review of Pharmaceutical Care in the Community, chairing the Public Health Review Group, and chairing a review of Community Eyecare in Scotland.

He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

He is married to Joyce and has three daughters (two of whom are graduates of Robert Gordon University) and six grandchildren.
