Working with S1 and S2 pupils to explore further and higher education opportunities and study pathways

The programme offers selected groups of S1 & S2 pupils, referred by the Schools, sessions that enable participants to explore a range of further and higher education opportunities and study pathways.

The programme is co-ordinated and delivered by staff from the university’s Access & Articulation Team and benefits from the support of designated teachers within partner schools.

Following initial sessions to introduce pupils and their parents and carers to the programme and the staff involved, pupils participate in approximately five engagement sessions during the school year. Activities take place both in school and on campus and are designed to maximise the potential, and develop the confidence of, participants. It is anticipated that students will progress through the programme into their 2nd year and continue to benefit from a further year of engagement activities.

Pupils will reflect on their learning at key stages and record their experiences by completing a ‘Passport to Success’ personal achievement record.

The programme starts with introductory sessions for both students and their parents. Potential participants will be identified by the school and will be given the choice to continue to the next phase of the programme when they progress into S2. Feedback from students and teachers will be sought regularly to inform the content of each session, and provide flexibility to run the programme with the needs of students in mind. There will also be flexibility to accept new group members and for pupils to exit the programme at agreed points where relevant.
